Nine times out of ten, Arizona engagement photos take place in the desert, where you’re surrounded by really cool views and kissing in front of a cactus. And don’t get me wrong, I love that, like, a lot (here’s my proof). If you’re the type of couple who wants something a little different from the norm, though, I understand you. And I’ve got you covered. Because Bartlett Lake in Arizona? It’s a dream come true. Greenery, wildflowers, and waterfront views bump this space up really high on my list of favorite engagement photo locations as an Arizona engagement photographer.
If you’re already as in love with this spot as I am, here’s everything you need to know to plan your Bartlett Lake engagement photos!

Let me just say: it’s hard to find greenery, water, or flowers in Arizona. So finding them all in one place? That’s basically a goldmine.
Bartlett Lake in Arizona has some gorgeous spots that really make taking engagement photos here easy, and the level of variety all in the same spot is something that sticks out to me a lot! It makes it able to hold several different vibes really well, whether you want picnic, cottagecore vibes, or edgy, moody vibes.
Another reason I love Bartlett Lake for engagement photos so much is that it has a wedding venue on-site called The Cove at Bartlett Lake. Something about taking your engagement pictures at the same place your wedding will be gets me, and if that’s your style… Yeah. Let’s meet here yesterday.

If you’re already strongly considering taking engagement photos at Bartlett Lake, you probably fit this vibe:
Sound like you? I love you already.

I can’t make a guide to taking Bartlett Lake engagement photos and not give you some photoshoot ideas. This is a space that’s just waiting for you to make it feel like you, and these are some of my favorite ways to do that:
A picnic in the wildflower fields? I cannot. It gives the perfect “Yeah, we’re in love and a super cool couple” energy.

I mean, how can you have the water right there and not want to get in? And the splashing and running through the water photos? Yeah. 10/10, every time.

Something like a Halloween engagement photoshoot theme would be insane here, and I actually need that in my life immediately.

If you want some extra variety in your Bartlett Lake engagement photoshoot (or you just need a food or caffeine fix, which is so valid), we’re pretty close to Phoenix here, which means we can pop into some of my favorite spots like CoffeeDrunk or Wren and Wolf.

Now that we’ve talked about the inspiration and beauty of it all… Let’s get into the logistical stuff: actually planning your session.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Spring or fall will bring you the mildest temperatures for Bartlett Lake engagement photos, so choosing between those fully depends on the vibes. Late winter to early spring will give you more of that vibrant wildflower look that I’m absolutely obsessed with, and fall gives you the chance to get some of those moody aesthetic shots we talked about.

Sunset + Bartlett Lake in Arizona = a perfect match. The way the light reflects on the water and the sunsets feels like a work of art?? It just all feels meant to be, and I couldn’t love it more as an Arizona engagement photographer.

While you won’t typically need a permit to take photos at Bartlett Lake in Arizona, you may need a day pass, depending on where we’ll be going. As your Arizona engagement photographer, I’m always here to help you figure out what you need and how to get it, so don’t stress too much about this!

Since the wildflowers are my standout favorite part of Bartlett Lake, I’m always a fan of adding some color to your engagement photo outfits to go with it. Something like this Free People skirt or this Altar’d State dress? I’m obsessed.
