Tanque Verde Ranch + an intimate wedding = a combo that has my heart.
If you’re in the midst of the whirlwind that is planning your wedding, you’re probably looking for the perfect wedding venue, and you’ve also probably said, “Why don’t we just elope??” in full seriousness at least three times. As an Arizona wedding photographer, I see you. And let me just say… A small, intimate wedding day at Tanque Verde Ranch could be the answer to all of your problems. Because a day like Arin and Alex’s, where it’s all about the feeling and never about the production, simplifies things a lot.
Let’s get into how to plan a day just like this. That’s easy from the time you say yes to the time you’re leaving your wedding in your vintage getaway car!

Have you ever seen a venue and just… Know? Yeah. That’s Tanque Verde Ranch. It’s the visual equivalent of a vibrant Arizona summer, and if you know me, you know that that’s basically my whole vibe. There’s so much to love about this place, but here are a few standouts for me personally as an Arizona wedding photographer:

Now, let’s get into intimate weddings, because if you’re here… I know it’s something you’re toying with the idea of. I’m forever and always pro-intimate wedding. One, because I see how much stress it takes off of my couples, and two, because it’s usually a more intentional, less performed day than a huge wedding that you’re only planning because you feel like you have to. If you truly want a large wedding, that’s a different story (and I’m so here for that), but if you’re only taking that route because it’s what’s traditional… No, thank you!
That’s where intimate weddings come in, and they’re especially great for:
A smaller guest list means more connection with the people who are actually there, which means you get to be a lot more grounded in your day rather than bouncing around to 20 tables, saying hi to people you haven’t seen in years. And I don’t know about you, but personally, I’ll always choose the first route! There’s something about it that feels a little more cozy, a little more authentic, and a lot less overwhelming. And if you’re wondering if dance floors are still as good at intimate weddings… Definitely. Just look at this backyard wedding as an example.

If Tanque Verde Ranch and the idea of an intimate wedding are checking all your dream wedding boxes, here’s exactly how to plan your day.

While The Barn at Tanque Verde Ranch is something straight out of a dream, it works best for large weddings. Let me just say this, though: the floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the desert?? I need them in my life immediately.
Another indoor space, The Saguaro, brings exposed wood and stone that makes this basically feel like it’s out of a dream home magazine. This space works best with 100+ guests, but can definitely have a really cozy feel for an indoor, intimate wedding.

Cactus View is the ceremony spot at Tanque Verde Ranch, and it’s easy to see why. The backdrop is something right out of Pinterest, and the setup for a small ceremony feels super special and secluded. And not to mention… Summer sunsets here? Insane.

I don’t know if my favorite part of this spot is the gorgeous mountain views or the stone fireplace, but what I do know is that it’s the most incredible spot for an intimate wedding. Whether this is for a ceremony or an outdoor reception, the space holds 75 people and has an energy that just works way too well for intimate weddings.
I’ll take the views from this terrace over the beach any day, because it truly has it all. I mean, the mountains? The desert? The way the sun hits? I’m obsessed.
Desert View Terrace is the perfect spot for a small outdoor dinner party that feels effortless and easy. Moments feel real here, and there’s something about dancing the night away under the desert’s stars that just makes a whole difference in how the night feels.

Cottonwood Grove is a space tucked away in the forest, and it brings rustic Western charm to life all on its own. The wide-open space is there for you to do whatever you want with, but if I’m honest… This area works better for larger weddings than intimate ones because of just how open it is.
Old Homestead is the spot with my favorite views on the entire property. It’s an old stone building sitting on top of a hill overlooking a desert, and it makes the perfect spot for a micro-elopement or even just sunset portraits. If I’m your Arizona photographer, just know that we’ll be here on your wedding day.

The best kind of day here looks like waking up in your bridal party hotel room, getting ready (mimosa in hand, obviously), then heading up to Old Homestead for your first look, private vows, and portraits. This is where we lose it, in the best way, because the whole setting is just so romantic and really encourages it to just be the two of you in a world all alone.
Later on, you’ll say “I do” at Cactus View before heading into your reception on Rincon Terrace, which is just all-around good vibes. The food, the music, the company, the sunset?? They all get a 10/10. And when you head out (or, up to your on-site room), you leave feeling like you’re on top of the world, thinking, “Yeah, I just had the best day ever.”

Arin and Alex’s wedding was all of the goodness in this blog post, all mashed together. It was intentional, it was intimate, and it was absolutely stunning!!
It was important to these two that their day was spent focusing on each other and their favorite people, and that’s exactly what they got. They planned a timeline that was super relaxed, decorated with simple, but meaningful, details, and the views from Tanque Verde Ranch? Yeah, they helped.

Instead of dancing at the reception, they played laser tag. And that kind of super fun, super unique detail is something I want to see at every wedding now, please and thank you!

This vendor team was absolutely incredible, and if you’re planning a day like this… I highly recommend them all:

Seriously, though, when presence is important to you, it’s my favorite kind of wedding day. Whether that looks like an elopement in the middle of the desert or a huge wedding somewhere like Tanque Verde Ranch, I’d love to be there to capture it for you. You can inquire about booking me right here!
Client Love: “Kali and her husband were fun, professional, laid back, and made us feel so comfortable at our engagement photo shoot and our wedding! We have used them for 3 separate occasions, and I will not use anyone else. The quality of the photos is incredible. You truly get your money’s worth and then some. We wanted a photographer who would capture the real, and they delivered big time!”
